Best tactics for 1v1 matches

The tactic you pick before a 1v1 match affects more than many realise. It sets how many attempts you make, how hard you are to score on and when you leave the pitch. Here is when to choose what.

Offensive — for the strong finisher

Offensive tactic gives more attempts but weaker protection. Pick it if your shot power and precision are clearly better than the opponent's — you want to settle it fast before stamina runs out. The risk is you take more damage if the opponent counters.

Defensive — for enduring tacklers

Defensive tactic gives fewer attempts but makes you far harder to score on. Pick it if you have high stamina and good tackles — you win by wearing the opponent down and countering when they are tired.

Normal — the safe bet

Normal balances attack and defence. It is the best choice when you do not know what the opponent built, or when the attributes are even. It minimises risk but rarely wins big.

Give-up threshold — protect your player

The give-up threshold lets you leave the pitch when energy reaches a chosen level, instead of risking injury. In 1v1 it is especially valuable against heavier opponents: you lose the match but save the player for the next one. Set it by how much you dare risk.

Counters decide it

Whatever the tactic, the best counterer often wins. A successful tackle grants a counter if you still have a foot left in the round — so always keep a foot in reserve when you can. The one who counters most usually wins 1v1.
